Patriots Match Best Victory Run From Tom Brady Years with Triumph Against Jets

Patriots rookie TreVeyon Henderson in action

First-year player Henderson has recorded five scores during the current campaign

The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run since the Brady era as they defeated AFC East rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football

First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the New England squad notched an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since iconic QB Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season

QB Drake Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 out of 34 attempts

Victory extends the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after falling to two wins and eight losses

The visitors had scored first at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to finish the Jets' initial series

But the home team answered in the second period as the rookie scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone halfway into the third quarter to make it 21-7

"It was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of Henderson. "He wants to be excellent."

Justin Fields found John Metchie late in the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Andy Borregales booted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the triumph
