Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
