Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's ODI Team Versus Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-game ODI series versus India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a shock selection.

Performance Issues Result in Omission

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI side after managing only a single run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of 47 in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a Test recall ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a return to the Test team as Australia seek a solution to their batting top-order problems.

Bowling Returns and Fitness News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since performing well for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the build-up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he works to regain fitness from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
