There are now available glowing gadgets designed to address complexion problems and aging signs to sore muscles and periodontal issues, recently introduced is a toothbrush enhanced with small red light diodes, promoted by the creators as “a breakthrough for domestic dental hygiene.” Globally, the market was worth $1bn in 2024 and is projected to grow to $1.8bn by 2035. There are even infrared saunas available, which use infrared light to warm the body directly, the infrared radiation heats your body itself. Based on supporter testimonials, it’s like bathing in one of those LED-lit beauty masks, enhancing collagen production, easing muscle tension, alleviating inflammatory responses and persistent medical issues and potentially guarding against cognitive decline. Research and Reservations “It feels almost magical,” notes a neuroscience expert, a scientist who has studied phototherapy extensively. Of course, certain impacts of light on human physiology are proven. Sunlight enables vitamin D production, essential for skeletal strength, immune function, and muscular health. Sunlight regulates our circadian rhythms, additionally, activating brain chemicals and hormonal responses in daylight, and winding down bodily functions for sleep as it fades into night. Appropriate exposure periods aren’t established, ideal distance from skin surface, if benefits outweigh potential risks.
