Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz were killed during the assault last Thursday, while three people are still hospitalized. Investigators believe that Al-Shamie could have been motivated by "radical religious views" and announced that additional suspects, aged from late teens to mid-forties, had been arrested under suspicion of planning and enabling of acts of terrorism. Condolences Offered to Deceased Tributes were offered to one victim and another victim On Friday, relatives of the victims expressed their grief to their family members, hailing them as heroes who died protecting people. Mr Daulby, 53 and Mr Cravitz, 66 were killed during the incident after the attacker drove a car against bystanders before stabbing people that morning. Local authorities confirmed Mr Daulby sustained injuries by officers' bullets as they shot the attacker shortly after the incident was reported. Relatives Statements The relatives of one victim said he "lost his life in the act of courage to save others" and his last actions "demonstrated extreme bravery and he will forever be remembered". Mr Cravitz, a local resident, was working as a security guard at the religious building. Honoring his memory, his family expressed: "He had been so compassionate, considerate and always wanted to chat and build relationships. "He was dedicated to his spouse, family and loved his meals. He will be deeply mourned by his partner, family, companions and neighborhood." Investigation Launched into Police Actions The Independent Office for Police Conduct said it would examine the use of lethal force by armed police responding to the incident, which occurred on the Jewish Day of Atonement, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish calendar. Armed police accidentally fatally shot one victim, while worshipper Yoni Finlay was also shot by police resulting in major wounds. This inquiry will concentrate on the "circumstances surrounding the deadly officer-involved shooting of the attacker", as well as "if police may have contributed to or contributed to the death of the man later found to have suffered the lethal bullet injury". Attack Details Disclosed Counter terror police also provided more information about what happened in the period leading to the assault at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue. In a statement released to the media the next day, a senior officer stated: "We have been told from eyewitness statements that a man was seen acting suspiciously outside the temple prior to he was approached by security and left the area". At the time, the incident had not been communicated to authorities. Fifteen minutes later, "the suspect came back in a car and initiated his violent assault," Mr Taylor continued. Police are applying for legal orders to further detain all individuals now in custody, he also said. On Thursday, Greater Manchester Police said three other suspects - two males in their 30s and a woman in her 60s - had been taken into custody on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of terror-related activities. Firsthand Accounts The religious leader was leading prayers when his synagogue was attacked and described witnessing "malice and hostility" as a man began "ramming the entrance, hurling large containers, doing whatever he could to get in". Commending the rapid response of congregation members, he informed media outlets: "I witnessed true bravery, it must be noted, and people who rushed to assist others rather than fleeing. It was astonishing." The synagogue chairman, the synagogue's head official told news organizations, he heard Al-Shamie shouting "this is their punishment for killing our children", before "banging his knife into the glass, trying to get through".
